Toronto Common is excited to announce a special invite to That’s Life Gourmet‘s Summer Tasting Series.

That’s Life Gourmet is celebrating summer with a series of tasting events that feature each of their product categories; sake, Spanish wines, and Champagne and Toronto Common is invited!

The first event will feature Sake & Japanese BBQ with Zakkushi on Carlton.

Zakkushi already specializes in authentic Japanese Kushi Yaki. This event will elevate the experience with a traditional structured yakitori dinner featuring 12 skewers plus a few side snacks in a set sequence to showcase each ingredients at its best.

Similar to sushi, authentic yakitori should be enjoyed in a particular order and right off the grill which can be hard to achieve in their daily service since customers order as they please.

Zakkushi will be offering their yakitori as it is intended to be enjoyed in Japan along with a pairing of 5 sakes & a special shochu cocktail from That’s Life Gourmet to Toronto Common for $45 tax and tip included!

Join us for this authentic taste of Summer BBQ Japanese style Wednesday, August 10th at 7pm!

That’s Life Wine + Sake has been committed to importing and representing fine wines and premium sakes since 1997.

They choose to develop and nurture relationships with boutique, small volume producers based on quality products, and their commitment to ethical and sustainable farming practices. That’s Life Gourmet values education and are passionate about sharing knowledge. They strive to maintain brand integrity and are proud to work with loyal customers, valued trade partners, and exceptional producers who share their love of great wine, sake, food, family and fun.

Because ‘that’s life!’

Zakkushi Yakitori Izakaya was founded in Vancouver in 2004 and opened their 3rd location, 1st in Toronto Decemeber 2012.

Specializing in Japanese charcoal grill skewers (kushiyaki), using binchotan charcoal, a high heat retention charcoal that burns at a higher temperatures and finer quality, allowing the food to retain more of it’s natural flavour and juices.

Ryoji Ramen & Izakaya‘s EPIC Ramen Tasting Returns with Toronto Common!

May 31st, 7pm, June 28th, 7pm, July 26th, 7pm

As part of our Anniversary celebration we launched our Epic Ramen Tasting and it sold out so quickly we knew we needed to add more.

Ryoji’s ramen tasting has been one of the most popular and longest running events on Toronto Common, while the EPIC ramen tasting was amazing, it was also a little wasteful so we’ve made one slight change to this event.

Instead of the Tonkostu, Spicy Miso, and Garlic Oil ramen, which are the same broth and noodle with the addition of a signature sauce.Ryoji will be offering their Garlic Oil and Spicy Miso topping to be added to any of the ramens for a mix and match. While Spicy Miso and Garlic Oil are offered on the menu as a Tonkotsu ramen, they are regularly added to other ramens like Shio, Shoyu and Vegetable as well.

Still over 2 regular bowls of ramen in total with 9 noodle tasting dishes plus sake for $28 tax & tip included!

  • Tonkotsu Special
  • Pai Tan
  • Seasonal Special
  • Shio
  • Shoyu
  • Vegetable
  • Okinawa So-Ki Soba
  • Bonito Tonkotsu Shoyu TsukeSoba
  • Spicy Black Sesame Miso Tonkotsu TsukeSoba

* PLUS spicy miso and garlic oil on the side.

Ryoji Ramen & Izakaya
, established in January 2013 in Toronto, but with multiple locations in Okinawa Japan, is the only Okinawan-style Izakaya in Toronto.

With Okinawa’s rich history and slightly different culture from mainland Japan, Ryoji offers traditional and inventive cuisines and ramens reflective of the unique culture of Okinawa.

Simple yet delicate flavours, fresh ingredients, creative cuisine, served in a bistro style.

Staying true to the Ryoji values of gratitude, passion, and awareness, Ryoji looks to evolve their menu with appreciation to their surroundings and to continue to evolve the art of Japanese cuisine.

Ramen Tasting at Ryoji Ramen & Izakaya

Posted on Updated on

All February Toronto Common is hosting a ramen tasting at Ryoji Ramen & Izakaya!

So much of ramen is in the broth and with so many different choices sometimes it’s hard to know what to order.

Ryoji took the guess work out of ramen offering 4 of their most popular ramens in tasting sizes.

  • Tonkatsu – A rich pork bone broth
  • Shio – A light chicken & pork bone broth
  • Shoyu – A soy based broth
  • Vegetable – A konbu & mushroom broth

With 5 locations in Okinawa, Ryoji offers authentic Japanese cuisine and wanted guests to try the unique flavours in their different types of ramen.

In addition, Ryoji included 4 starter samplers, a sake tasting and dessert as well.

“The food was good – although there was a large party, every dish seemed to be up to par and not sloppy as would be expected when serving so many people.”

Our first event was held last Tuesday Feb 4th and we’d like to thank all our attendees joining in the fun, Ryoji for hosting the event, and BlogTO for mentioning our event on their Toronto Food Events!
